Remove Scuff Marks From A Patent Leather Messenger Bag And Restore Shine And Suppleness To The Fabric
If your patent leather messenger bag has scuff marks on its surface due to excessive use, remove them by completing the cleaning steps below. Once your bag's beauty has been restored, proudly show it off while shopping, traveling, or attending any other type of public function.
Materials
- dish detergent
- cup of water
- spoon
- soft cloths
- rubbing alcohol
- hairdryer
- leather polish
- buffing mitt
Treat The Scuff Marks
Add a few drops of dish detergent to a cup of water. Stir the detergent and water until they are thoroughly mixed. Dip a soft cloth into the mixture and apply it to each scuff mark. Gently rub each stained area while moving the cloth around in tiny circles. Add more of the cleaning solution to the bag until all of the marks have been removed.
If marks are very dark in color and cannot be removed with the cleaning solution that you made, pour a small amount of rubbing alcohol onto a clean cloth and treat them with the same steps. Once the bag's surface is stain-free, use a damp sponge to rinse away any rubbing alcohol that remains on the fabric. Dry the patent leather with a hair dryer or place the bag in a ventilated room for a while.
Restore The Leather's Shine And Suppleness
If the bag has a dull surface, restore shine and suppleness to the fabric with polish that is designed for patent leather. Pour a dollop of polish onto a buffing mitt. Put the mitt on your hand and press the side with the polish down firmly against the leather. Move the mitt around in small circles and add more polish to its surface as you move it to another part of the bag.
After all of the patent leather has been treated, remove excess polish from the bag with a clean, soft cloth. The polish will prevent the leather from cracking and will help the bag look well-maintained.
Prevent Damage To The Bag
Avoid using your messenger bag on days that are rainy. If your bag does get wet, however, dry its surface off as soon as you can with a cloth. Remove stains from the bag as soon as you notice them with a small amount of detergent that has been mixed with water. Always dry the leather after it has been treated. All of these steps will preserve the patent leather's appearance so that the bag can be used well into the future.
