About Dr. Avriette and her Practice
I have been a licensed clinical psychologist
for more than 12 years. I work with a wide variety of
patients, including men, women, couples, families and
adolescents. I enjoy working with couples, families
and individuals. It is my experience that people who
are motivated to change their lives can still have difficulty
finding the best way to do so. I like working with people
who have made the decision to change. I understand the
turmoil that can accompany a decision to change. Sometimes
change is forced upon us and sometimes we seek it. We
may feel better about the changes we wish. Nevertheless
very good outcomes can be found when change is imposed
from outside forces as well. Psychotherapy can help
you identify goals and directions.

Psychotherapy should be a means to an identifiable
end. Psychotherapy can help you heal or help heal an
important relationship, for instance. I want to understand
my patients well and help them reach their goals. It
is not always possible for everyone to reach their goals,
but the process of identification and effort can very
helpful. Individual's goals can change in the course
of therapy. This is up to the patient. Patients often
achieve the goals for which they entered therapy, and
identify others on which they wish to work . I prefer
to work with people without using insurance, as this
allows the greatest freedom to decide the length and
kind of psychotherapy you wish to pursue. I will work
with you to determine the length of your treatment.
I have seen many people over the years who fear if they
begin treatment, it will never end. This is not the
case. Your successful completion of psychotherapy is
a goal of mine, too. I enjoy seeing my patients achieve
their goals and move on.

My Orientation
I am often asked what my orientation is. While
the short answer to this question is cognitve and behavioral,
the real answer is more complex than this. Each patient
is different. My habit is towards behavior based treatment.
I pay close attention to not only what patients say
but what they actually do. This tends to help most people
understand that their actions may convey more than their
words or have a greater impact. Of course, other factors
such as motivation, cognition and environment play a
part. When I work with someone, I try to be aware of
the many elements that influence behavior and may affect
outcome. I also work on how perception is affecting
behavior and thinking in each individual
.
